Huskies Defeat Vaughn College

Pottersville, NY - October 11, 2025

The Word of Life Huskies put together one of their most complete performances of the season on Saturday afternoon, defeating Vaughn College 4–1 at home. The win improves the Huskies to 3-4-4 overall, while Vaughn drops to 2-2-1.

The Huskies came out aggressively, controlling possession early and outshooting Vaughn 13–3 in the first half. Their pressure paid off in the 17th minute when Henrique Borges opened the scoring off an assist from Bernabe Reyes. Just 13 minutes later, Austin Hartwell doubled the lead on a setup from George Rohrbaugh, putting Word of Life ahead 2–0.

Vaughn responded in the 35th minute when Joseph Fernandez found the net from a pass by Kleider Rodriguez, briefly cutting the deficit to 2–1. But the Huskies answered before halftime, as Felipe De Campos scored a crucial goal assisted by Matheus Borges to restore the two-goal cushion.

In the second half, Word of Life continued to dominate possession and opportunities. Morgan Bender sealed the win in the 58th minute with an unassisted goal — his second of the season — to make it 4–1.

The Huskies outshot Vaughn 30–5, with 15 shots on goal compared to Vaughn's two. Goalkeeper Raphael Cournoyer faced limited action, making one save over the 90 minutes. Vaughn's keeper, Zachary Alexander, had a busy day, recording 11 saves in the loss.

Discipline became an issue for Vaughn late, as the visitors collected four yellow cards and saw Daniel Celis sent off with a red card in the 81st minute.

With four different Huskies recording either a goal or an assist, the victory showcased Word of Life's balanced offensive attack and improving chemistry as the season heads toward its final stretch.
