Huskies Defeat Paul Smith's College

Pottersville, N.Y. – The Word of Life Huskies secured a strong conference win on Wednesday evening, blanking Paul Smith's College 2–0 at home. With the victory, the Huskies improved their record to 4-3 overall and (2-3 YSCC), while Paul Smith's fell to 3-5-1 (2-3 YSCC).
Sophomore forward Eva Penning delivered both goals for Word of Life, recording her first multi-goal game of the season. Penning broke the scoreless deadlock in the 37th minute, finishing off a setup from Ambar Infante to put the Huskies ahead 1–0 heading into the half.
In the second half, Word of Life continued to pressure, and Penning struck again in the 79th minute, this time off an assist from Ellie Rishel, to double the lead and seal the result. Penning led all players with five shots and four on target.
Defensively, the Huskies were organized and disciplined, limiting Paul Smith's College to 15 total shots, only five of which tested goalkeeper Ryleigh Gangarossa. The sophomore keeper turned away all five attempts, notching her second shutout of the year.
Infante and Rishel each added assists, while Ellie Rishel also contributed three shots from the midfield.
Word of Life finished with 11 shots to Paul Smith's 15, but proved more efficient with their chances, putting five on target and converting twice.
The Huskies will look to carry their momentum into the weekend as they continue conference play against NHTI on Saturday at 1:00 pm and Maine-Augusta on Sunday at 2:00 pm.
